2018 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2018 Toyota Sienna near Auburn, ME

The competitive minivan market is full of great contenders all vying for your family's attention, but no two models are built the same.  The Chrysler Pacifica offers great Hybrid capabilities to consider, saving you money not only with the initial price tag but for years to come when it comes to needing less frequent fill ups.  The Toyota Sienna, meanwhile, has been a popular pick in terms of styling and slightly elevated power to its engine.  Here, we break down the power and design of the two cars to help you determine which minivan would be the better fit for your family and lifestyle!

2018 Chrysler Pacifica Power & Handling

Powering the capable Pacifica is a 3.6-liter V6 engine with a nine-speed shiftable automatic transmission, with 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque.  EPA rates this system for 18/28 mpg.  The extra gear is designed to create better low-gear efficiency and smooth power across the Pacifica's rev range.  While this is perfectly suitable for a minivan, Chrysler wanted to go the extra step to really make a gem in the minivan market.  The Pacifica Hybrid carries with its specially tuned 3.6L V6 two electric motors delivering greater fuel efficiency to cut down on ownership cost and lengthening time between gas station visits.  This great system provides 33 miles of efficient-free clean electric driving before the hybrid system kicks in, and achieves an EPA rating of 32mpg/84MPGe.  That combines to a 566-mile driving range before needing a fill up!

2018 Toyota Sienna Power & Handling

The Sienna, meanwhile, has one engine option: the 3.5-liter V6 engine with an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission.  This system provides 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque, only slightly advantageous over the Pacifica.  Where the Chrysler shines is its hybrid's fuel efficiency.  The Toyota offers FWD 19/27mpg and a lesser AWD 18/24mpg, lending to a good length between fuel ups, but not nearly as long as the mileage range the Pacifica Hybrid can achieve.  While AWD might be appealing, you have to move up two trims from base trim before it's offered, increasing the pricetag even further into larger numbers.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica Features & Design

With the better base MSRP, you get greater features available within the Pacifica, such as standard Bluetooth and Cruise Control, that'll enhance your drive and comfort on the road.  All three rows of the Pacifica's seating can readily handle an all-adult crew.  The enormous cargo space can hold 32.2 cu.ft behind the third row and expands up to 140.5 cu.ft of space with the seats folded.  What's amazing about the Chrysler's build is the one-hand operable Stow n' Go seating designs.  This class-exclusive second-row arrangements allows for the seats to fold down into the floor, providing a completely flat floor design.  The compartments the chairs disappear into can also double as handy storage bins when the seats are up!  The rear power hatch and side sliding doors open and close with the touch of a button, making for low impact loading.  Other quality of life features include a rearview camera, three-zone climate control, active noise cancellation, and a 3,600-pound towing capacity.

2018 Toyota Sienna Features & Design

The Sienna can also seat up to eight, although the base model only seats seven and it comes a little more bare bones in terms of features.  Again, the base model doesn't come standard with either Bluetooth or Cruise Control.  Standard features otherwise include three-zone climate control, rearview camera, available leather seats, and power-operated sliding doors.  The dash is wide and can possibly be overwhelming with how many knobs are present to separately control all the various systems.  Not all the Toyota's seats can fold flat as the Crysler's can, thus making for some possibly inconvenient spaces when it comes to carrying cargo that needs the flat floor.  Standard cargo volume offered is 39 cu.ft behind the third row, with 150 cu.ft total to offer within the cabin space.  Its towing capacity is one hundred pounds less than the Pacifica, topping out at 3500 pounds.

Conclusions

When considering the family, you have to consider the budget.  The Sienna is the more costly option both in terms of the initial price tag and with lesser fuel efficiency when compared to the tantalizing option of the Pacifica Hybrid.  To get similar features as the base Pacifica, you have to additionally move up in the Sienna's trim models, further raising the price if you want similar comforts and driving convenience as the Pacifica.  The Pacifica additionally comes with standard seating for eight passengers, while you'd have to go a trim up to get the same in the Sienna.  The convenience and cost-friendly consideration Chrysler gives to families is just too good.  You can learn more about the Pacifica in the link below to read our vehicle review, along with other family-friendly vehicles!
