2018 Jeep Compass vs 2018 Subaru Crosstrek near Auburn, ME

When it comes to crossover SUVs the options seem endless, and at times choosing one can be overwhelming. However, two crossover SUVs stand out from the rest, the 2018 Jeep Compass, and the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. The 2018 Jeep Compass was completely redesigned in its previous model year, and yet they continue to add more things like a FWD option for the Limited trim level! The Crosstrek had to be completely redesigned for 2018,  and receives a new cabin design, an engine that was upgraded from its previous model, and a badly needed new chassis. The Compass starts out strong with plenty of luggage space, the perfect crossover size, and the well-known dependability of Jeep backing it up.

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

One of the many reasons to love the 2018 Compass is the power standard engine! This engine is a 2.4-liter inline-4 that generates up to 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The Sport model comes with a six-speed manual transmission, and that very same transmission is available with the 4WD Latitude model. Front-wheel drive models come with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the four-wheel-drive models come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This engine is quiet, and smooth, and can even tow a fair amount. The four-wheel drive models can tow up to 2,000 pounds. That is plenty of towing capability for the size of the Compass.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Power & Handling

The Crosstrek also only has one engine available, however, this engine lacks the same amount of power and pep of the Compass'. The Crosstrek features a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that creates 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The base model and Premium model come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. If you want a CVT automatic you'll have to choose that as an option, or buy the highest model, the Limited. The towing capacity of the Crosstrek isn't particularly impressive, as it can only tow up to 1,500 pounds. That means the Compass can tow over 500 pounds more.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

There are four different model options that you'll find with the 2018 Jeep Compass. The first is called Sport, and offers Bluetooth connectivity, a six-speaker sound system, air-conditioning, a 5-inch touchscreen display with Uconnect, 16-inch wheels, and a USB port. One of the higher options, the Limited, comes with automatic dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, 18-inch wheels, an 8.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a power driver seat, upgraded exterior trim, and an upgraded driver information display. The Trailhawk doesn't have more features than the Limited, but this off-roading king comes with plenty of features, like a unique front fascia, 17-inch wheels with off-road-oriented tires, a Selec-Terrain system, a matte-black hood, red tow hooks, and a raised suspension.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Features & Design

Only three trim levels are offered with the 2018 Crosstrek. The base trim, the 2.0i, comes with Apple CarPlay, a rearview camera, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen display. The mid-range model option, the 2.0 Premium, comes with heated seats, automatic headlights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter. The highest option, the 2.0i Limited, offers a six-way power-adjustable driver seat, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, leather seating, an 8-inch dashboard display, LED adaptive headlights, and 18-inch wheels. There are more options, however, you'll have to pay more money to add them into the Crosstrek.

Conclusions

Finding the perfect crossover SUV in such a diverse segment can be challenging, especially when you're left choosing between the 2018 Jeep Compass and the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. As it can be seen, the Jeep Compass outpaces the Crosstrek with engine power, towing capacity, and the amount of trim levels offered. That means that the Compass is far more versatile with its own unique style, and to top it all off, it's a Jeep!
