Hands-Free Driving Tips

With more laws in place to prevent distracted driving, hands free driving accessories are in high demand. Sure most newer car models have the benefit of coming with technology like wifi and GPS built in. But happens if you are not ready for an upgrade or you want to buy an older car that doesn't have all these bells and whistles? Here are some must have accessories to keep you up to date but safe.

Hands Free Driving Accessories

- Do Not Disturb

While this is not an accessory so to speak, most smart phones come with the Do Not Disturb option. If your goal is to remove the distraction of phone use overall, consider the Do Not Disturb option as your first "accessory". The good thing is that if you still need to use your phone for GPS or someone on a specific list calls back to back, you can set the Do Not Disturb function to allow for these features and calls to come through. Just be sure to have a handsfree way of answering the call like some of the accessories mentioned below.

Bluetooth Speakers

There are tons of blue tooth speakers on the market that allow for hands free calling and listening to music. Some attach to the sun visor of your car while others are plug-in types and work via the AUX connections in your car. Some older model cars may not have an AUX connection so be sure to buy a device that will work for the model car you have or are planning to buy. Also check to see if the speaker you want is compatible with the voice command options on your phone.

-Phone Mounts

Hands free laws state that drivers can't touch their phones at all. Having a good phone mount means your phone can remain in sight for things like GPS but will also be secure. Just as holding a phone can be a distraction, the reflex to pick up a fallen phone (or any item for that matter) is a distraction too. Phone Mounts come in a variety of styles. Suction mounts for windows, magnet mounts that attach to air vents and even ones that attach to the cd player slot if your car still has one.

-Phone Chargers

Keeping your phone charged might be important for drivers who have long commutes or are out on a long road trip. Most people still use the plug and play with cord phone charging options available. There are also phone charging docs that come in a magnet option and attach to vents or lay flat in the car.

No matter the devices you choose, going hands free is a great idea regardless of the current laws in your area.
